DHIN and Clinical Trials
DHIN has taken a step forward in the clinical trials world and executed a master services agreement with Hightower Clinical, a leading Clinical Trial Site Organization. This agreement will bring more clinical trial opportunities to Delaware, generate new treatment options for Delawareans and contribute to the drug and diagnostic development process for everyone.
Currently, Delawareans have limited opportunities to participate in clinical trials. Most of the trials take place at Delaware’s large medical centers, which are few and far between. The new agreement will allow for a pathway to more locations hosting clinical trials, and it will allow for expanded access to various types of clinical trials.
DHIN’s extensive claims and clinical database will make it easier and faster to find the right patients for clinical trials in Delaware. When a clinical trial sponsor needs Delaware patients, they can send their study requirements to DHIN’s Analytics Team. DHIN then analyzes de-identified patient data to pinpoint which Delaware practices and health systems have the most suitable candidates.
This approach reduces the time and cost typically involved in finding trial participants. Instead of a broad system, physicians in the identified practices can speak directly to their qualified patients about the trial, allowing patients to make an informed decision about participating.
Physicians and practices in Delaware also greatly benefit from this agreement as they are able to offer their patients free, new treatment options while enabling a new revenue stream and training for their practice and staff.
Another group that benefits from this new agreement is Delawareans. For the longest time, Delaware residents had limited opportunities to participate in clinical trials because there were not as many trials taking place in the state in comparison to the surrounding states. Now, Delawareans have more opportunities to participate in clinical trials, which can provide life-saving new treatments for them and others.
Finally, Hightower Clinical benefits from this agreement because they now have another area where they can showcase their expertise. Hightower Clinical provides staff training and oversight at the clinic-requested level to take the burden off the clinical trial operations. This can mean as little as remote training, to as much as sending a coordinator for hands-on training and even Principal Investigator (PI) training for physicians wanting to go that route.
