What DHIN Users are Saying
“At Saint Francis ER, we cared for a patient who was complaining of abdominal pain as a result of a condition name diverticulitis. According to the patient, this condition had been diagnosed by a CT scan at another Delaware facility just few days prior. We used the DHIN to obtain the results of the above mention test. We found that in fact the patient had the test more than once at different facilities and the results were negative for diverticulitis. We also learned that the patient had multiple ER visits for the same complaint all over the State of Delaware. Thanks to the DHIN we were able to avoid unnecessary testing and prevent further exposure to radiation and risk of complications for this patient.” Dr. Jaime Roques, St. Francis Hospital
“Christiana Care emergency departments are receiving sites for patients from the entire state and surrounding region. Many patients are incapacitated and unable to provide vital medical information. Where in the past emergency physicians were working blindly without this information, DHIN gives us real-time access to critical data that will save lives.” Dr. Tim Shiuh, Christiana Care Health System
“We had a patient that one of our physicians ordered a CT scan abdomen and pelvis and the patient wasn’t sure if she had that test done or not. We pulled her up in DHIN and she did, not even one week prior in another hospital, and we wouldn’t have known that if we didn’t have DHIN.” Tabetha Oviedo, Eden Hill Surgical Group
“Having recently converted to an electronic medical record, the DHIN automatically places the patients’ results in their file and notifies the physician that test results have arrived. It even posts the results that are out of range in red so the physician can prioritize his or her work; focusing attention on the patients who are sicker and in need of treatment more urgently.” Adrian Scipone, Pulmonary Associates, PA
“DHIN has had a tremendous impact on our office dynamics. We have been paperless since 2007 and DHIN was a part of this process from the beginning. Once our system was up and running the next obvious step was to take advantage of all technology available to maximize the system. DHIN was that next step offering an interface directly into our system of patient data from area hospitals and lab providers. The process was seamless! We now receive about 75% of all patient data in our Delaware office directly into our EMR system thru DHIN!” Mary Lois Moss, Regional Hematology & Oncology, PA
“Information is power for emergency physicians. We often have little information about patients when they present to the emergency department - especially our physicians at Beebe Medical Center when we see vacationers from up north. The ability to access health information in a timely and expedited fashion allows us to make informed decisions about health care.” Dr. Kevin Bristowe, Beebe Medical Center
“We recently had a patient who was referred to our office for genetic counseling and a level II ultrasound due to a family history of a congenital anomaly. In her genetic counseling appointment, the patient stated that her OB/GYN office called her that morning and stated that her AFP tetra screen, a screening test for Down syndrome, came back indicating that her pregnancy was an increased risk for Down syndrome. Her OB/GYN had not faxed over these records to our office prior to her appointment. With the DHIN, we were able to access her results within minutes, appropriately counsel her regarding her risks, answer all of her questions, and offer her the appropriate follow-up testing.” Kimberley McGreevey, DE Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine of Christiana Care
“I have heard people talk about this sharing of information as an invasion of their privacy. As a user of the system and having worked in health care for many years, I believe that their information is more secure than a paper results. Paper results go through many hands and are able to be reviewed by anyone who has access to the place it is stored. Within the DHIN, there is an audit trail of everyone who touches that piece of information. If a person is not a legitimate caregiver of the patient and reviews the results (a family member, neighbor, co-worker), that person risks being terminated from their position.” Kay Malone, COO, La Red Health Center
